As we all know that OPGW optical cable is built on the ground wire support of the power collection line tower. It is a composite optical fiber overhead ground wire that puts the optical fiber in the overhead ground wire to serve as a combination of lightning protection and communication functions.

The following factors need to be considered during the construction of OPGW optical cable:

① The safety factor of the OPGW composite optical fiber ground wire should not be less than 2.5, and should be greater than the design safety factor of the wire. The average operating stress should not exceed 25% of the failure stress.

②The distance between the wire and the OPGW composite optical fiber ground wire should meet the lightning protection requirements.

③ The OPGW composite optical fiber ground wire should meet the thermal stability requirements during normal operation of the line and in the event of an accident.

The ADSS optical cable is a kind of all-dielectric self-supporting optical cable built on the main material of the tower body of the collection line. It requires a common ground wire to be erected at the same time to meet the lightning protection requirements of the collection line.

The following factors need to be considered during the construction of ADSS optical cables:

① The safety factor of ADSS optical cable should not be less than 2.5, and should be greater than the design safety factor of the conductor. The average operating stress should generally be 18%-20% of the failure stress.

② The ADSS optical cable should meet the strength and foundation stability check calculations of the erected poles and towers.

③ADSS optical cable should be protected against electrical corrosion, against the abrasion between the tower and the wire when the animal bites, and the wind deflects.

④Satisfying that under the action of external forces such as strong wind or icing, there is sufficient margin between the crossover of ADSS optical cable and the ground.

In summary:

①From the perspective of construction and operation and maintenance, 0PGW optical cable has all the functions and performances of overhead ground wire and optical cable, integrating mechanical, electrical, and transmission advantages, one-time construction, one-time completion, high safety, reliability, and strong anti-risk ability; ADSS optical cable needs Erecting a common ground wire at the same time, the two installation positions are different, and the construction is completed in two times. The normal operation of the power line will not be affected in the event of a power line accident. It can also be repaired without power failure during operation and maintenance.

②From the perspective of engineering cost indicators, OPGW optical cables have higher requirements for lightning protection, and the cost of a single unit is higher; ADSS optical cables are not used for lightning protection, and the cost of a single unit is lower. However, the ADSS optical cable also needs to cooperate with the erection of an ordinary ground wire for lightning protection, which requires an increase in construction and material costs. At the same time, the ADSS optical cable has higher requirements for the strength of the erected tower and the name of the tower. Therefore, in terms of overall cost, OPGW fiber optic cable saves investment in wind farms than ADSS fiber optic cable.

In summary, the above-mentioned OPGW optical cable is suitable for the construction of wind farms on plateaus and mountains with complex terrain, undulating elevation and harsh environment, and ADSS optical cables are suitable for the construction of Gobi desert and desert wind farms with sparsely populated land and convenient operation and maintenance.
