What is the Fiber Drop Cable?

The fiber drop cable is the optical communication unit (optical fiber) in the center, two parallel non-metal reinforcement (FRP) or metal reinforcement members are placed on both sides, plus black or colored polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or low-smoke halogen-free material (LSZH) , Low-smoke, halogen-free, flame-retardant) sheath. Because of its butterfly shape, it is also called butterfly optical cable and figure 8 optical cable.

Structure and Type of Fiber Drop Cable:

The fiber drop cable is also divided into indoor and outdoor. The ordinary fiber drop cable has a standard figure-eight structure; two parallel strength member, the middle of which is the optical fiber, is mostly used indoors; the self-supporting fiber drop cable is mostly used outdoors, in the common fiber drop cable thick steel wire suspension wire is added to the structure.

Strength Member,the fiber drop cable with metal strength member can achieve greater tensile strength and is suitable for long-distance indoor horizontal wiring or short-distance indoor vertical wiring. The metal strength member fiber drop cable is not reinforced with conventional phosphating steel wire, but with special copper-clad steel wire material, which can avoid damage to the optical cable caused by springback and winding caused by phosphating steel wire in engineering construction. The non-metallic strength member fiber drop cable uses FRP as the reinforcing material, which is divided into two kinds of kfrp and gfrp. Kfrp is softer and more ductile, lighter and more expensive. It can realize all non-metallic home access and has superior lightning protection performance. Suitable for introduction from outdoor to indoor.

Outer Jacket,PVC or LSZH material is generally used for the outer jacket of fiber drop cable. The flame retardant performance of LSZH material is higher than that of PVC material. At the same time, the use of black LSZH material can block ultraviolet erosion and prevent cracking, and is suitable for introduction from outdoor to indoor.

Optical Fiber Type,the common optical fibers of the fiber drop cable are G.652.D, G.657. A1, G.657. A2. The optical fiber in the fiber drop cable uses G.657 small bending radius fiber, which can be bent at 20mm. Radius laying is suitable for entering the house in the building by way of pipeline or bright line. G.652D single-mode fiber is the single-mode fiber with the most stringent indicators among all G.652 levels and is completely backward compatible. It is structurally the same as ordinary G.652 fiber and is currently the most advanced used in metropolitan area networks. Non-dispersion shifted single-mode fiber.

Features of Fiber Drop Cable:

1. Lightweight and small diameter, flame retardant, easy to separate, good flexibility, relatively good bending resistance and easy to fix;

2. Two parallel FRP or metal reinforced materials can provide good compression resistance and protect the optical fiber;

3. Simple structure, light weight and strong practicability;

4. Unique groove design, easy to peel off, easy to connect, simplify installation and maintenance;

5. Low-smoke halogen-free flame-retardant polyethylene sheath or environmental protection PVC sheath.

Applications of Fiber Drop Cable:

1.User indoor wiring

Indoor butterfly cables are available in specifications such as 1 core, 2 cores, 3 cores, 4 cores, etc. Single core cables should be used for residential users to access butterfly optical cables; for business users to access butterfly optical cables, 2--4 core cables design. There are two forms of butterfly-shaped home optical cables: non-metallic strengthening members and metal-strengthening members. Taking into account the factors of lightning protection and strong electric interference, non-metallic strengthening member butterfly optical cables should be used indoors.

2.Vertical and horizontal wiring in the building

Like the indoor wiring of the user, the horizontal wiring is not very demanding on the optical cable, but the vertical wiring must require the optical cable to have a certain strength of tensile performance, so we must consider the tensile performance of the fiber drop cable when purchasing

3.Self-supporting aerial-home wiring

The self-supporting "8" wiring optical cable adds a metal hanging wire unit on the basis of the fiber drop cable, so it has greater tensile strength, can be used for overhead laying, and is suitable for outdoor overhead wiring into indoor wiring environment. The optical cable is laid in an overhead manner outdoors, the metal hanging wire unit is cut off before entering the house, and fixed on a special holder, and the remaining optical cable is stripped of the metal hanging wire and introduced into the room with a fiber drop cable.

4.Pipeline home wiring

Pipe-mapping optical cables and self-supporting "8" wiring optical cables are both indoor and outdoor integrated optical cables, which can adapt to both indoor and outdoor environments, and are suitable for FTTH introduction from outdoor to indoor. Due to the addition of outer sheath, reinforcements and water-blocking materials on the basis of the fiber drop cable, the pipe-mapping optical cable has improved hardness and waterproof performance, and is suitable for outdoor pipe laying.
