OPGW(Optical Ground Wire) Cable designed to replace traditional static / shield / earth wires on overhead transmission lines with the added benefit of containing optical fibers which can be used for telecommunications purposes. OPGW must be capable of withstanding the mechanical stresses applied to overhead cables by environmental factors such as wind and ice. OPGW must also be capable of handling electrical faults on the transmission line by providing a path to ground without damaging the sensitive optical fibers inside the cable.

Types of opgw cables=

During the construction of the OPGW optical cable, where the OPGW optical cable is segmented, the OPGW optical cable needs to be spliced. As a construction worker, how should the OPGW optical cable be welded?

Optical cable splicing is an important process in the construction of OPGW optical cables, and its quality will directly affect the quality of line transmission. Among the OPGW faults that have occurred, the failure rate of the joint is very high. The occurrence of faults not only depends on the way and quality of the optical cable connection sheath, but also includes the enhanced protection method of the internal optical fiber connector and the quality of the material. It is also related to the optical cable splicing process and the responsibility of the splicer. The connection method of OPGW optical cable is basically the same as that of ordinary optical cable, but there are also differences, and the requirements are more stringent. Quality requirements for connection materials: OPGW optical cables are erected on the same pole as high-voltage lines, and the optical cables themselves are made of electric corrosion-resistant materials, so their connection sheaths must also be certified products, in addition to having good waterproof and moisture resistance In addition to certain mechanical properties, it also needs to have a certain resistance to electrical corrosion. The service life of the splice box should be longer than the service life of the OPGW optical cable.

Installation requirements: In order to prevent man-made damage, the optical cable splice box must be installed at a position above 6 m from the ground. At the same time, due to the particularity of the OPGW optical cable, it is necessary to reserve more remaining cables. Places such as the horizontal lattice surface of the iron tower. The joint box should have the function of installing and fastening without drilling holes on the tower, and the fixing must be beautiful and firm.

Splice loss requirements: The connection loss of the optical fiber connector should be lower than the internal control index, and try to test while connecting to ensure that the connection loss of each fiber channel meets the design requirements. In order to effectively control the splicing quality of the optical cable joint, the splicing attenuation indicated by the fusion splicer can only be used as a reference value. The optical time domain reflectometer OTDR should be used to monitor from two directions, and the average value of the splicing attenuation should be taken.
