We all know some severial basic types of ACSR, Such as squirrel conductor used for LT line, Rabbit conductor used for HT line, 66kv: Coyote conductor used for Transmission,So How do we select the best type of ACSR for a transmission line?

The number of aluminium conductors, steel strands, overall area, nominal current rating and short circuit current rating of the different types of ACSR conductors are different. The ACSR conductor for a transmission line is selected based on the following parameters.

1. Short circuit withstand capacity of the conductor - This should be equal to or greater than the fault level of the transmission line.
2. Nominal current rating of the conductor - This should be equal to or greater than the continuous current requirement of the transmission line.
3. The voltage level of the transmission line. It is general convention to use certain conductors for certain voltage levels, e.g., ACSR Panther conductor can be used for 66kV or 132kV transmission line.
4. Besides ACSR, other type of conductors such as AAC, AAAC, etc. are also used in transmission lines.
